More Information through Additive Resolution

Display walls help create collaborative environments; as you add more projection cubes you create more information-sharing real estate. In other words, more screens translate into more simultaneously viewable information on the display wall.

This image illustrates the amount of information that would be displayed by individual projection cubes. More projection cubes allow you to see more of the city landscape at a high level of detail.

Resolution within a Projection Cube

Increasing the number of projection cubes increases the overall resolution of the display wall. Additionally, it increases the overall resolution of a single display in the wall.

The image to the right represents the difference in the amount of information seen by a single monitor or projection cube at XGA (1,024x768 pixels) and SXGA+ (1,400x1,050 pixels) resolutions.

A display wall with a higher resolution will result in more information seen at the same size. With equal screen arrays, the projection cube with a higher resolution will display more information.

ResolutionIndividual ResolutionOverall Resolution of a 4x2 Display Wall
XGA1,024 x 768 pixels4,096 x 1,536 pixels
SXGA+1,400 x 1,050 pixels5,600 x 2,100 pixels

While higher resolution projection cubes typically produce a higher quality display wall, ergonomic studies have shown that lower resolution projection cubes are sometimes better suited for larger control room spaces.

Please see display wall ergonomics for more explanation.

Utilizing Additive Resolution for Situational Awareness

A display wall can provide control room operators greater situational awareness when there is a large influx of information, as opposed to being confined solely to the limits of their local workstation.

Example:

Operators in this train control center are able to resolve specific issues at their local workstations while utilizing the display wall to monitor congestion before and after the situation occurs. The ability to mirror display wall information on the desktop is provided by Activu software.
