ANSI LumensStandard brightness measurement in an LCD projector. Measures the level of brightness at the screen of a projected image.
Aspect RatioThe ratio between the width and the height of a screen. A standard TV/Monitor has an aspect ratio of 4:3, a standard wide screen (HDTV) has an aspect ratio of 16:9.
Contrast RatioThe ratio of maximum white to minimum black on the projected test picture. The larger the ratio the higher the contrast.
DLP®Digital Light Processing™. A technology developed by Texas Instruments that reflects light off of the surface of a Digital Micromirror Device (DMD)™. This allows for a more clear, high-definition processing that gives microportable projectors the same presentation capabilities as larger projectors.
DMD™Digital Micromirror Device™. A chip developed by Texas Instruments that consists of thousands of tiny, moveable mirrors that reflect light to create clear, precise images that can be displayed.
Hertz (Hz)A unit of frequency equal to one cycle per second (vertical scan rate is measured in Hertz).
Horizontal Scan RateMeasures the speed it takes for a monitor to draw a line from one side of the screen to the other. Measurement in kilohertz.
LumensStandard unit used for measuring brightness.
NSH LampA certain category/type of lamp by a manufacturer.
NTSCNational Television Standards Committee. This is a standard for the United States, Canada, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Mexico, and certain South American countries. References 525 lines of resolution with a refresh rate of 60 Hz.
PALPhase Alternate Line. This is a television standard for the majority of Western Europe, Asia, South America, Australia and Africa. References 625 lines of resolution with a refresh rate of 50 Hz.
ResolutionThe number of pixels that makes up screen area.
VGA: 640 pixels x 480 pixels
SVGA: 800 pixels x 600 pixels
XGA: 1024 pixels x 768 pixels
SXGA: 1280 pixels x 1024 pixels
SXGA+: 1400 pixels x 1050 pixels
RGBRed,Green, and Blue. These three colors make up the color spectrum.
RS-232CAn interface between a computer and a serial device, i.e. printer.
SCSISmall Computer Systems Interface.
SECAMThis is the television standard for color processing and broadcasting. Standard in France, Eastern Europe and some other countries.
SVGASuper Video Graphics Array. Has a resolution of 800 pixels x 600 pixels.
S-VideoA Video signal format. A VCR with higher resolution than normal composite video. (S-VHS)
SXGASuper eXtended Graphics Array. Has a resolution of 1280 pixels x 1024 pixels.
SXGA+Super eXtended Graphics Array +. Has a resolution of 1400 pixels x 1050 pixels.
XGAeXtended Graphics Array. Has a resolution of 1024 pixels x 768 pixels.
VGAVideo Graphics Array. Has a resolution of 640 pixels x 480 pixels.
